Basic scientific achievements The effect of hypoxia at different periods of prenatal development on the activity of glutamate metabolism enzymes in tissues and mitochondrial fractions of different brain regions of rat in postnatal ontogenesis was studied. Changes in the activity of glutaminase in different brain structures, may be due to the activation of both glutamate- and GABAergic systems, and changes in the activity of glutamate dehydrogenase could be associated with the supply of intermediates in the citrate cycle in nerve cells and could be a protective and adaptive response of the brain.
