Basic scientific achievements
  1. According to the results of laboratory and field experiments among 53 wheat genotypes 14 accessions (T.monococcum, T.dicoccoides arabicum, T.dicoccum farrum, Barakatli 95, Giorgio 302, Gyirmizi bughda, Elan, Shirvan 3, Agh bughda, Kharkovskaya 46, Leukurum 79, Sharg, Leucomelan, Shirvan)  were selected with high tolerance to drought and salinity that can be used in breeding as a valuable gene source.
  2. By molecular genetic analysis of salinity tolerance of 196 diploid wheat species (T. monococcum, T. urartu, T. boeoticum) it was revealed that T.monococcum and T.boeoticum had 2 major salinity tolerance genes (Nax1 and Nax2). However these genes only expresses in tolerant T.monococcum accessions.
  3. For the first time, by fragment analysis in bread wheat botanical varieties (T. aestivum v. erythrospermum, T. aestivum v. albidum, T. aestivum v. meridionale, T. aestivum v. lutescens) and varieties (Akinchi 84, Gunashli, Mirbashir 128) of Azerbaijan origin the existence of stem rust resistance gene - Sr31 was determined.
  4. In durum wheat accessions of Azerbaijan origin assessed in artificial background the direct relation between brown rust resistance and botanical varietal traits was revealed. So, 83.3% of resistant and middle resistant accessions had white spike, while spike color in 70.4% of susceptible accessions was red.
  5. As a result of molecular screening of bread wheat varieties in Grekum 75/50, Arzu, Zardabi, Gurgana-1, Mirbashir 128, Akinchi 84, Gunashli and Yegana varieties  the existence of Yr18/Lr34 linked genes that provides resistance to yellow and brown rust was determined.
