Basic scientific achievements 5'-promoter regions of all the protein and rRNT coding genes of plastid (chloroplast) genomes of three higher plants (rice - Oryza sativa, corn - Zea mays and tobacco - Nicotiana tabacum) for the first time have been analyzed by computer programs, it has been found that these regions are rich with the different types and numerous statistically nonrandom NEP (nuclear encoded promotor) promoter elements and motifs of different regulation elements. At present the studies with aim to obtain promoter (TATA and non-TATA) maps of the nucleus and chloroplast genomes of higher plants (currently 7 higher plants), full genomes of which were sequenced completely are still underway. A comparative analysis of the transcription factors bounding DNA domains that regulate the expression of chloroplast related nuclear gene groups in several higher plants (Arabidopsis, rice, corn, black pine etc.) having full-genomic sequence, experimentally testing of functionality of the some found potential transcription regulating elements (TE) and studies of possible molecular mechanisms of coordinated and cooperative expression of nuclear-plastid gene regulation at the transcriptional level are also being carried out.

By using analogous computer methods some minisatellites of human and arabidopsis have been studied, and richness of these sequences by numerous potential transcription and replication regulatory elements has been demonstrated.

One of the key performers in creating of PlantProm database (http://www.rhul.ac.uk/; http://www.softberry.com; http://cub.comsats.edu.pk) of the transcribed by RNA polymerase II plant genes promoters the transcription start site (TSS) of which were experimentally found.

The research of the Azerbaijani population with STR markers has been carried out together with co-authors for the first time in our republic, and the work in this direction is being continued intensively.
