The delegation led by the director of ANAS Institute of History academician Yagub Mahmudov participated in the international conference on "Christianity in Southeast Europe in the ancient Antiquity", held in Yambol, Bulgaria.

The conference was attended by researchers from Bulgaria, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Turkey, Serbia, Romania, Croatia, Ukraine and other countries.

Academician Yaqub Mahmudov spoke after the speech of the mayor and mayor of the city of Yambol at the opening of the conference. The scientist said that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to multicultural values, where the representatives of different religions worship freely and their rights are protected by the Constitution. He said the Azerbaijani-Albanian church was the first Christian church in the entire Caucasus.

The scientist noted that President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva were awarded the highest religious orders and medals in many countries.

He also delivered a report on "Ancient Albanian Church and its tragic history". The reporter said that the tragic history of the Albanian church was linked to its abolition by Tsarist Russia in 1836 and the aggressive activities of the Armenian-Gregorian church.

"The Armenian-Gregorian Church has falsified the history of the Albanian church, destroyed its libraries, and implemented a policy of diophysic Albanians' Gregorianization and Armenianization. Subsequently, unfounded territorial claims were made against Azerbaijan in all the lands inhabited by the ancient Albanians, and in fact, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which today poses a serious threat to peace and security in the South Caucasus, has been laid.
