In contrast to the RNA tests now widespread, the new technique will help to identify those who have already had COVID-19 in a mild form and have not consulted doctors. It will also help to figure out exactly how the immune system responds to the virus, how long the immunity lasts and how wide the disease actually spread in the population.

Most patients tolerate the new coronavirus in a mild form resembling a cold or allergy. Many of them do not even go to the hospital and do not pass testing, which makes it difficult to assess the true scale of the pandemic.

According to the hightech.plus, the solution can be the use of tests based on antibodies to COVID-19. In contrast to the RNA-based tests currently in use, they are able to detect signs of both active and past illness. Thanks to this, it is possible to determine how many people have had coronavirus and make a forecast for the further development of the pandemic.
