Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry will study the kakhriz in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan

Good news from the battles for native Karabakh under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief caused uplifting in the staff of the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of ANAS.

We have no doubt that in the coming days, with the victorious march of our brave army, all of Karabakh, including Jabrail, Fizuli and Aghdam, will be completely liberated. There are a sufficient number of kakhriz in our occupied territories. Kakhriz systems, which are a reliable source of clean water, are valuable components of our material culture and history. It is our sacred duty to restore kakhriz, make them available to people as a potential source of water, preserve them and control the purity of water. All this requires appropriate research.

There are 885 kahriz in Azerbaijan (of which 262 fall on the share of the Nakhchivan AR). Thus, in our territories outside Nakhchivan there are 623 kakhriz, of which 332 are in the occupied territories. For more than 30 years, these monuments have not been repaired, and there is no information about their current state.

In 2016-2017, kakhrizs located in some regions of Azerbaijan were involved in the study, but, of course, for obvious reasons, it was not possible to carry out these works in the occupied zone.

It should be noted that in the occupation zone 332 kakhriz have 7660 observation wells and tunnels with a length of 229 km. The annual potential water-bearing capacity of these kakhrizs is 57 million cubic meters. The water yield of the Kakhriz in the Jabrayil region alone is 34 million cubic meters. As you can see, there is great potential here.

The study and restoration of kakhriz in the liberated territories, along with meeting the needs of the population of these territories for drinking water, will play an important role in the revival of economic and social life, various sectors of the economy.
