Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

“Independent Azerbaijan: Heydar Aliyev-Ilham Aliyev” conference devoted to 92nd anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev was held at Presidium of ANAS on May 4.

Opening the meeting president of ANAS, acad. Akif Alizadeh spoke on genius leader’s merits for Azerbaijan people and said: “Today, when we glancing at 70 years of history of the academy, we can be witnessed his crucial role in destiny of our people”.

In 1993, by the return of national leader Heydar Aliyev to governance of Azerbaijan, civil war was prevented, danger of splitting up alleviated, turning point emerged in the country's socio-political, socio-economic, scientific and cultural life, commenced statehood formation in accordance with international norms and principles, noted A. Alizadeh.

At the people's request national leader Heydar Aliyev returned to power for a second time, just then academy has gained the governmental status. This scientific temple won the name of "National Academy of Sciences” by national leader Heydar Aliyev’s Decree on 15 May 2001, he stressed out.

Later on, vice-president of ANAS, acad. Isa Habibbayli delivered a lecture on “Heydar Aliyev and Azerbaijan statehood”. Characterizing Heydar Aliyev as one of the rare figures of world policy, academician highlighted his exceptional merits in formation of foreign policy of Azerbaijan. National leader contributed to history and development of ANAS, noted I. Habibbayli.

Being decent successor of national leader’s political course, his son Ilham Aliyev has shifted Azerbaijan into one of the dynamic developed, tolerant and multicultural centers of the world. Currently, Azerbaijan hosts for international grandiose events and sport races, he reported.

Then, academician-secretary of the Department of Earth Sciences, acad. Fakhraddin Gadirov made lecture on “Heydar Aliyev and Azerbaijani oil”, academician-secretary of the Department of Social Sciences, and corresponding member Nargis Akhundova on “Heydar Aliyev epoch of Azerbaijan history”. Lectures covered national leader’s oil strategy, management ability and rich human qualities.
