Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

ANAS Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics celebrated Honored Scientist, social-political figure and academician Faramaz Magsudov’s85th anniversary on March 18.

In advance, employees of the institute were pilgirmaged his grave at Alley of Honor and put flowers and wreath.

Opening the event director of the scientific venture, prof. Misir Mardanov spoke about scientist’s 70 yearly way of life, creativity, social-political performance and his contributions to Mathematics.

He was born on March 20, 1930 in Nakhchivan city. Graduated from Azerbaijan State University department of mathematics with diploma of honor in 1954 and functioned at AS Institute of Physics-mathematics on same year. Besides interest to mathematics, physics and other exact sciences, his deep curiosity into history, literature and poetry formed him as a notable representative of Azerbaijan science. F. Magsudov was elected corresponding member of ANAS in 1976, active member in 1980 and president of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences in 1977 by the decision of national leader Heydar Aliyev. Deserved to “Honored Scientist” title and “Friendship of nations” order for his merits in science development in the republic and highly qualified staff training, stated M. Mardanov.

Later on, Professor Mammad Bayramoglu spoke about scientist’s life and academic performance: “F. Magsudov laid the foundation for a new era in the field of functional analysis. He was considered the founder of the spectral theory for wide class of operators with a continuous component in the spectrum”, he noted.

Professors Nadir Suleymanov, Akbar Aliyev, Musa Ilyasov, PhD in mathematics Ali Babayev and others shared their memories about scientist.

Elkhan Mammadkhan, academicians’ grandson, expressed his gratitude to the organizers and attendees for care and respect to his grandpa.
