On May 5, vice-president of ANAS, academician Ibrahim Guliyev met with the head of the Tbilisi Regional Office of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Gebhard Reul and coordinator of educational and scholarship programs of the Office for Azerbaijan Sevar Garayeva.
The meeting was also attended by the head of the Scientific and Organizational Department of the Presidium of ANAS, PhD in Physics, associate professor Rustam Rustamov and head of the Department of International Scientific Cooperation, PhD in Biology, associate professor Esmira Alirzayeva.
Academician Ibrahim Guliyev noted that the scientific institutions of ANAS have extensive cooperation ties with various organizations in Germany and stressed the importance of expanding these ties. He noted that scientific ties with Germany include petrochemical processes, digital technologies, artificial intelligence, mechanical engineering methods, biomedicine, food security, etc. He touched upon the importance of developing priority areas such as tourism and stressed the importance of holding such meetings frequently.
Gebhard Reul, in turn, said that the Baku DAAD Information Office was merged with the regional center and such regional centers began to work in other countries. He noted that Germany and Azerbaijan are interested in expanding ties in the field of science and education and that DAAD scholarship programs continue to support the exchange of Azerbaijani students, scientists and specialists. Gebhard Reul noted that there are short and long-term individual scholarship programs for researchers to study in Germany, as well as programs to support the training of German professors in Azerbaijan.
Then PhD in Physics, associate professor Rustam Rustamov spoke about the experience of cooperation with DAAD in the field of space research, noted the signing of a document on cooperation in this direction and brought to attention proposals for expanding German-Azerbaijani scientific ties.
Head of the Department of International Scientific Cooperation Esmira Alirzayeva spoke about the joint research conducted by ANAS with various scientific and educational institutions in Europe. She also noted the successful experience in dual doctoral programs, the master's program is being implemented in ANAS and the graduates study at the doctoral level in the world's leading educational institutions and proposed the use of DAAD programs to attract German professors to teaching.
During the meeting, an agreement was reached to hold an online information day to provide researchers with detailed information about programs and rules for their application.
In addition, Gebhard Reul invited the management of ANAS to the opening ceremony of the Tbilisi Regional Office in June.
