Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

The president of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli met with representatives of the Hong Kong Core Academy of the People's Republic of China, who are on a visit to our country.

The meeting was attended by Professor Li Lei, member of the Executive Council of the Hong Kong Core Academy, Executive (Vice) Secretariat-General Raymond J. Wu and the Academy's scientific staff members Feng Liu and Yan Zheng. 

During the meeting, Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that after the restoration of Azerbaijan's state independence, the bilateral cooperation relations were established with China by National Leader Heydar Aliyev, based on solid foundations. He noted that President Ilham Aliyev also pays special attention to relations with China and Azerbaijan and China closely cooperate within the framework of the “One Belt and One Road” project, as well as international transport routes such as East-West and North-South, through official documents signed at the level of heads of state. 

Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that the broad cooperation opportunities created by the heads of state also have a positive impact on the scientific sphere. He mentioned that the National Academy of Sciences closely cooperates with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Hebei Academy of Social Sciences, Beijing Foreign Studies University and Hebei Normal University and that joint scientific projects are being implemented. The Academician also underlined that the China Cultural Center operates at the Institute of Literature of ANAS named after Nizami Ganjavi, where Chinese literature and culture are being studied.

The head of ANAS assessed the 1st International Scientific Conference on Azerbaijani Studies held in Beijing under the motto “Strengthening China-Azerbaijan Relations with the Spirit of the Silk Road” as a historic scientific and cultural event for our countries.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli, who highly appreciated the guests’ visit to our country, recalled that during his visit to the People's Republic of China in June of this year, mutual scientific cooperation relations were discussed at the Zhuji Branch of the Hong Kong Core Academy.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli stated that there are broad opportunities for joint cooperation with the Hong Kong Core Academy and voiced his suggestions regarding issues of interest.

Professor Li Lei, member of the Executive Board of the Hong Kong Core Academy expressed satisfaction with being in Azerbaijan and thanked for their warm reception and hospitality. He noted that they would actively participate in the development of scientific relations between China and Azerbaijan.

In turn, Professor Li Lei and Professor Raymond J. Wu recalled their meeting with the president of ANAS in China and expressed their interest in expanding mutual scientific cooperation relations, presenting several proposals.

Later, gifts were presented to the guests, and a commemorative photo was taken.

After the meeting, the Chinese scientists toured the historical building of the Presidium of ANAS and got acquainted with the historical and cultural sites of Baku.
