Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

February 19, ANAS President, Academician Akif Alizadeh met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel to Azerbaijan Dan Stav on 19 February.

Welcoming the guest, Academician Akif Alizadeh spoke about the existing cooperation between the two countries in the sphere of science and education.

Reminding about his last visit to the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, University of Israel and Tel Aviv, as well as other scientific and educational centers of the country, Academician noted that, the successes achieved by Israel in the scientific fields are a significant contribution to the world science: "Israel achieved great success in the this sphere due to the attention which the country paid to the development of science and education. ANAS is interested in taking over the experience of Israel in areas such as the integration of science and education, innovative development of science, the scientific support of the agricultural sector and so on".

In turn, Ambassador Dan Stav expressed his satisfaction with the cordial reception and by the contribution which the leadership of ANAS contributes to the development of bilateral ties.Thanking the President of Academy for the ideas introduced by him, the Ambassador emphasized that, the unity of science and education is important for science of both countries.

Dan Stav noted that, Israeli scientists are interested in cooperation with Azerbaijani colleagues in the agricultural sector. He added that, for this purpose in the near future is planned visit of the representatives of the Israel Center for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel to Azerbaijan.

The Academician Akif Alizadeh highly appreciated this intention about cooperation.

Noted that, there are possibilities of implementation of researches together with the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of ANAS, Academician emphasized that, similar cooperation is of great importance for science of both countries. Head of ANAS noted that, scientific communications with Israel are up to standard and he proposed the creation of a joint scientific laboratory to promote existed collaboration. Establishment of a such laboratory allows to explore actual issues for both countries. Joint laboratories between Azerbaijan and the United States and Italy are already functioning, Academician added.

Highly appreciated this offer, Ambassador Dan Stav invited scientists of Azerbaijan to conference on problems of thalassemia, which will take place in March of the current year in Israel, and expressed the confidence that their participation will promote further development of scientific cooperation between our countries.

The meeting was attended by the Vice-President of ANAS, Academician Ibrahim Guliyev, Head of the Department of International Relations of the Presidium Administration of ANAS, PhD on Geology and Mineralogy Gulam Babayev and Head of Department of Public Relations and science popularization Zulfuqar Farzaliyev.
