Department of Social Sciences presented the annual report

On December 23, was held a next meeting of ANAS Department of Social Sciences. The meeting was attended by members of the Presidium, Directors, deputy directors, scientific secretaries of scientific institutions that are part of the department, and the persons who have received important results in research.

Opening the event, ANAS Vice-President, Academician Isa Habibbeyli introduced the issues on the agenda. Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that, 2016 was remembered as successful and fruitful research results. The scientist noted that, studies are conducted in scientific institutions of the Department of Social Sciences, which began operations last year, aimed at preserving the material, spiritual and national values of our people, active integration of Azerbaijan in the international space.

At the event was listened the report on on the results of scientific and scientific-organizational activity of department institutions in 2016.

Director of the Institute of History after A.A.Bakihanov, corresponding member of ANAS Yagub Mahmudov informed about important scientific results obtained in the current year. He noted that, in accordance with the recommendations of President Ilham Aliyev, by academic historians have been studied the most pressing issues of socio-economic and political history of Azerbaijan independence period, including on the basis of sources, archival documents and scientific literature were first fundamentally researched and compiled the progress made in 25 years in the field of foreign policy, economic and cultural ties. The results are reflected in the five monographs, consisting of two volumes. The scientist also said that the fundamental monograph "Erivan khanate: Russian occupation and resettlement of Armenians in Northern Azerbaijan", awarded the State Prize, was published in various languages and is represented by the scientific community. In addition, the reporter noted that, the published works on "The real story and the lies of the great Armenia", which refers to the true history of the Armenian ethnos, had moved from the Balkans to the east of Anatolia, and "genocide against the Azerbaijani people in 1918" tells about the history of genocide committed by Armenians in all regions of Azerbaijan in 1918-1920.

Yagub Mahmudov said that, this year the staff of the Institute conducted research in 4 directions, 4 covered issues 37 and the 4 operation. 26 of 31 topics have been completed. Employees of the institute published 384 labors. 3 monographs and 89 articles published abroad, article 7 - in journals with impact factor.

Director of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography, Doctor of Historical Sciences Maisa Rahimova noted that, this year the archeologists were conducted research works on "The archaeological study of monuments in the north-west of Azerbaijan".Maisa Rahimova said that, for the first time studying the history of the Caucasus beginning of IV millennium BC on the territory of Gabala region burial was discovered by scientists of the Institute of catacomb type, belonging to this period. The scientist stressed that, this finding represents a new direction in the study of funeral rites Leylatepe culture, widespread in Azerbaijan in the first half of the IV millennium BC.

The speaker said that, in 2016 by archaeologists who were involved in the work being carried out on "Archaeological research sites in the south-east of Azerbaijan", the first time in the south-eastern region of Azerbaijan, large-scale archaeological excavations in the necropolis Piboztepe were held in Lerik region, which dates from the early ancient period. Noting that, together with scientists from the University of Pennsylvania (USA) in the necropolis Piboztepe primary paleozoological, anthropological, paleogeologicheskie studies have been conducted, and the University of Georgia have produced radiocarbon analyzes based on samples from the necropolis, Maisa Rahimova added that such a comprehensive study of the necropolis of the ancient period held in Azerbaijan for the first time.

The speaker noted that, the employees of the institute conducted research work on 6 problems and 24 themes.

Speaking with the report, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies after Ziya Bunyadov, correspondent member of ANAS Govhar Bakhshaliyeva said that, scientists of the Institute conducted research on the history, economy, social and political development of the countries of the East, relations of Azerbaijan with these countries, the study of Oriental Philology, Translation and publishing of written monuments, as well as relations between eastern and western civilizations.

The speaker spoke about the scientific work done by the scientist-orientalist on the theme "Learning classical Turkish literature and research scientists of Turkic Azerbaijani literature." Under the theme "History, economics and socio-political development of South Azerbaijan" was published the monograph "South Azerbaijan: genocide of 1918" and "Southern Azerbaijan: from 21 to Azer White Revolution in Iran: the economic and socio-political situation."

At the meeting, the report of the Institute of Philosophy presented by Director of the Institut, Professor Ilham Mammadzadeh, who noted that, the institute studied theoretical issues of religion in the modern period, history and philosophy of religions, topical issues of religion and culture in Azerbaijan. He said that, the research was conducted, covering philosophical and sociological and socio-psychological issues of global, sociological problems of modernization, the most topical, controversial issues of the history of philosophy, social thought and culture of Azerbaijan and the world in the field of gender studies. The scientist noted that, in the reporting year, 82 employees completed the work in 2 scientific directions, on 3 and 9 issues of the themes.

Deputy Director of the Institute of Economics, Ph.D. in Economics Allahyar Muradov said that, in the reporting year, the Institute conducted research on issues such as the formation and development of sustainable economic development model, based on innovation, quality of economic growth, and problems of development of non-oil sector, entrepreneurship and international economic relations. He noted that academic economists have continued research in the area of human capacity and capital, socio-economic and demographic problems of the service sector development, social and economic problems of rational use of natural resources. At the meeting it was noted that the staff of the Institute conducted research on the problems of the work 4, 12 subjects, 12 works, 106 stages.

Director of the Institute of Law and Human Rights, Doctor of Juridical Sciences Ayten Mustafayeva noted that, during the period of research scientists of the institution were entitled «rights and fundamental freedoms in the context of the development of democratic processes in Azerbaijani society". She said that, in accordance with the national program of action to improve the protection of human rights and freedoms in Azerbaijan was published the book "The damage to historical and cultural monuments in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan".

The speaker said that, the institute studies have been conducted, covering 6 problems, 15 themes and 18 stages.

At the event, Director of the National Museum of Azerbaijan History, Academician Naila Velikhanli submitted a report for 2016. Academician noted that, the museum staffs were working on the collection, preservation and study of artefacts relating to all periods of the history of Azerbaijan, the publication of research results, and the promotion of the show through the exposure and exhibitions.

Informing that the monograph "Azerbaijan in VII-XII centuries: history, sources, comments," was published, which explores the history of Azerbaijan of the Middle Ages, the scientist added that the book covered six centuries period of history with the inclusion of the territory of Azerbaijan in the Arab Caliphate to the Mongol invasions, transfers the information given by Azerbaijan of 15 Arabic sources of the period with comments. Naila Velikhanli noted that the museum staff conducted studies covering 4 problems, the 10 and 19 works.

The meeting also listening reports of Institutes of Caucasiology and the History of science. The leaders of these institutions told about international relations, that the institutions established for the year 2016.

After listening held discussion on the reports. Academician Isa Habibbeyli praised the work of research institutions department gave its advice and recommendations. Reports on the activities of the Institute in 2016 were approved, the heads of institutions have been given appropriate instructions.
