A scientific session "Glorious and sad hundred years" held

National Museum of Azerbaijani Literature after Nizami Ganjavi ANAS hosted a scientific session on the "Glorious and sad hundred years" dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the liberation of Baku from occupation on September 14.

Opening the session, the museum's director, academician Rafael Huseynov noted that, on May 28, 1918, the 1st parliamentary republic in the Muslim East was established in Azerbaijan.

He noted that, at that time Bolshevik-Dashnak forces kept Baku and most of the regions of the country under occupation, Armenians planned massacres against Muslims, including to capture the Baku oil, the British wanted to capture the city. He brought to attention, on the orders of the military minister of the Ottoman Empire, Anvar Pasha, to free himself from the occupation of Azerbaijani lands, the Caucasian Islamic Army was created and sent to our country. In his speech, the academician stressed that the recapturing of Baku by the army under the leadership of Nuru Pasha on September 15, 1918 was one of the most crucial moments in the history of Azerbaijan.

He mentioned the words of the Chief of Staff of the Caucasian Division of the Rushdu bay, "The Army of Anatolia, along with the Azerbaijani soldiers, fought bravely for the independence and future of the country." He said that, during the Soviet Union, obstacles were put in the Azerbaijani-Turkish relations, the Caucasian Islamic Army was propagated in Soviet textbooks as an occupier, but this thing could not achieve its goal, and erase the phrase "Turkic grave" from the people's memory. Till now our people visit regularly, the graves of Turkish soldiers in Agsu, Shemakhi, Hajigabul, Kurdamir and Ganja.

Academician said that, the building of the institution he directed was a witness of those historical events, and the first Cabinet of Ministers of the Azerbaijani government was located here. He noted the importance of naming streets and schools by the names of Turkic soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the independence of Baku and Azerbaijan, also the creation of films and art works about them and the creation of a complex monument in their honor.
