Opening of the First International Symposium on Traditional Turkic Gravestone Plates

National Museum of Azerbaijan History held the opening ceremony of the First International Symposium on Traditional Turkic Gravestones on September 19. The symposium is organized by Erciyes University of Turkey, Turkish Historical Establishment, Khazar University and National History Museum of Azerbaijan.

At first, the national anthems of the republics of Azerbaijan and Turkey were voiced.

The rector-founder of the Khazar University, Professor Hamlet Isakhanli stressed that, the symposium is of great importance in terms of the exchange of ideas and the expansion of cooperation.

Then, director of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, academician Nailya Velikhanli noted, the need to study historical monuments, including tombstones destroyed in Armenia and the occupied lands. She stressed the belonging of the Armenian-speaking Albanian monuments to the historical heritage of Azerbaijan and the importance of their study.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Director of the Museum for Scientific Work, Doctor of Historical Sciences Nargiz Aliyeva, Deputy Director for Security of the Exposition, Ph.D. in History Gabiba Aliyeva and a member of the Department of the History of Arts at the Faculty of Literature of the University of Erciyes. Jalil Aslan stressed the importance of such international events in the study of common Turkic history and the importance of their organization in the future.

The symposium participants visited museum halls, an exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the liberation of Baku: "The people are grateful to you!". The symposium continued its work at the sessions of the sections of the Khazar University. The international event will finish work on September 21.
