Nasirov Mirza Rza Mirza Masi oglu

M.Nasirov was born on December 31, 1903 in Baku. He graduated from the Medical Faculty of Azerbaijan State University (1927). M.Nasirov defended his PhD in Medical Sciences (1937) and Doctor of Science (1950). He received the title of Professor (1950). He was elected as an active member of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan SSR (1968).

He worked as a doctor in the city hospital №3 (1927-1929), as a regimental doctor in the army (1929-1931), as an intern at the Republican Research Clinical Institute (1931-1935), as an assistant at the Azerbaijan State Medical Institute (1935-1942), head of the therapeutic department of the military hospital in Iran during World War II (1942-1945), as well as head of the department at the Azerbaijan State Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education (1947-1979).

The scientific and medical activities of the scientist were devoted to solving the problems of parasitology, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of malaria, visceral leishmaniasis, brucellosis, hepatol syndrome, ankilostomidoz, protozoal disorders of the intestines. For the first time, he studied the influence of the environmental factors of the republic on the clinic and the pathogenesis of widespread diseases. A scientist has widely applied modern functional, biochemical, anatomical and other research methods in medical institutions of the republic to study these diseases. He is one of the founders of the scientific school of medical parasitology in Azerbaijan.

Academician M.Nasirov is the author of over 250 scientific papers published in the USSR and abroad, including the author and co-author of 13 monographs. Under his leadership were protected 2 doctors of sciences and 10 doctors of philosophy. The scientist delivered reports at scientific congresses, conferences in the republics of the USSR in foreign countries and introduced the scientific community to the achievements of the Azerbaijani medical science.

For many years he was a member of the Scientific Medical Board of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Medical Journal, a member of the editorial board of the Big Medical Encyclopedia and the Azerbaijan Soviet Encyclopedia. For achievements in the field of medicine, the scientist was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, a number of medals and honorary diplomas. He was awarded the title "Honored Worker of Science" (1960).

Academician Mirza Rza Nasirov died on July 13, 1979 in Baku.
