Ramiz Anvar oglu Mehdiyev
Ramiz Mehdiyev was born on April 17, 1938 in the city of Baku. Politician of Azerbaijan, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (since October 23, 2019), member of the Security Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan (October 23, 2019), Head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan (1995-2019), full member of ANAS; He is the Active State Councilor of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In 1957 he graduated from the Baku Naval School. After completing his education here, in 1961 he entered the history faculty of the Azerbaijan State University named after S.M. Kirov (now Baku State University). In 1968 he entered the graduate school of the Philosophy Faculty of the Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov. In May 1972, at a meeting of the Defense Council of Moscow State University, he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of philosophical sciences.
After graduating from the Baku Naval School in 1957, he worked in the “Caspian Oil Fleet” department of the All-Union Production Association “Caspian Oil and Gas Industry”. In 1965, being a fifth-year student, he was appointed instructor of the student youth department of the Central Committee of the Azerbaijan LKGI, and in 1967-68 he worked as the second secretary of the Nakhchivan regional committee of the Komsomol of the Azerbaijan LKGI. In 1972, he worked at the Department of Scientific Communism of the Azerbaijan State University, first as a teacher, then as a senior teacher.
In May 1974, he was promoted to the position of a lecturer in the Propaganda and Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan. In June 1976, he was appointed deputy head of the department of science and educational institutions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan. In October 1978, he was elected first secretary of the district committee named after the 26th Baku commissar of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan.
In December 1982, he was elected secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan. In May 1988, he was dismissed from the post of secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan in connection with a change in the leadership of the republic at the plenum of the Central Committee, and in June 1988 he was appointed head of the department of the Institute of Social-Political Research and Information of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.
In 1980-1990 he was elected a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan in two convocations, and in 1995 - a deputy of the Milli Mejlis of Azerbaijan. From February 4, 1994 to February 7, 1995, he worked as the head of the general department of the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.From February 7, 1995 to October 23, 2019, he headed the Administration of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. This position was named the head of the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan before the adoption of the Law on Referendum in connection with the amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2009. Ramiz Mehdiyev was appointed a member of the Security Council under the President of Azerbaijan after being appointed head of the Presidential Administration. He is a member of the New Azerbaijan Party. Until March 2021, he was a member of the YAP Board. Since that day, He has been a member of the YAP Council of Elders.
He defended his dissertation on the topic “On the relationship between nationalism and opportunism”. The topic of his doctoral dissertation is “International Relations: Theoretical and Political Problems”. Both candidate and doctoral topics are related to the field of social philosophy. Ramiz Mehdiyev, elected a member of the New York Academy of Sciences in 2001, was elected a full member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences in 2007. On October 23, 2019, He was elected President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
Ramiz Mehdiyev is also the chairman of the Azerbaijan Association of Philosophy and Socio-Political Sciences. He is the chairman of the editorial board of the journal “History of Science”. The main topics of his articles are social phenomenal, economic development, philosophy and dialectics. He is also the author of 26 books. 7 of his books have been translated into various foreign languages. Also, 7 books, 81 articles have been published abroad. The number of articles published in peer-reviewed and indexed journals and in international databases is 39.
