Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

Habibbayli Isa Akbar oglu was born on October 16, 1949 in village Danzik, region Sharur, Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Azerbaijan Republic.

In 1971, he graduated with honors from the Nakhchivan branch of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical Institute (now Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University) of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University. In 1971-1975 Isa Habibbayli worked as a teacher in a village secondary school in Sharur district.

In 1975-1996 he worked with scientific-pedagogical activities at Nakhchivan State University, Chairman of the Student Scientific Society (1968-1971, 1975-1990), the Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs in 1991-1996, in 1996-2013 he was a Rector of at Nakhchivan State University.

In 2013-2019, ANAS Vice President, the First Vice President in 2019-2021 and in 2021-2022 he was ANAS Vice-President. On October 25, 2022 he was electedthe as President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences  at the General Meeting of ANAS and was approved by the AR President on October 26, 2022. He is also a CEO of the Institute of Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi of ANAS since 2013.

In 1980, he defended PhD on “Artistic features of Azerbaijani romantic lyrics of the beginning of the 20th century”, in 1996 he defended his Doctoral thesis on “J. Mammadguluzadeh: Environment and Contemporaries” and in 1997 he received the scientific title of Professor. Isa Habibbayli is the corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences since 2001 and an active member of the National Academy of Sciences since 2003.

He is the author of 14 monographs, 1 textbook, 2 teaching aids, more than 1000 scientific articles, 17 brochures. His books and articles were published in Turkey, Russia, China, France, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Iran, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, South Korea, Lithuania, Georgia, Egypt, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan. He is a scientific supervisor of 7 people has defended their PhD and 39 people who has defended their doctoral dissertations.

He conducted research on literary trends, literary types and genres, and determined for the first time that satire is a literary type. He developed the concepts of Azerbaijanism, periodization of literature and Mollanasraddinism. He has numerous studies on the history of Azerbaijani literature of the 19th-21st centuries.He studied the heritage of J. Mammadguluzadeh, published his 4-volume “Works” in Baku (2004), 2-volume “Selected Works” in Nakhchivan (2009), selected works from Russia (1999), Pakistan (2004), Egypt ER (2008), Hungary ( 2011), Lithuania (2017), Bulgaria, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan (2019). He found followers of Mirza Jalil's descendants in France and Iran (1992-1998), has organized the visit of his successors in Poland to Baku (November 16-21, 2019). He published the unknown works of M.T.Sidqi, M. Shahtakhtli, M.S.Ordubadi, E.Sultanov and M.C.Jafarov. In 1998-2005, he was elected as a deputy of the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan MR, and headed the International Relations and Human Rights Commission. He is a convocation deputy of the AR Milli Majlis III (2005), IV (2010), V (2015) and VI (2020). As the chairman of the Science and Education Committee of the AR Milli Majlis (2015-2020) he had prepared the laws “On Science” (2016), “On Preschool Education” (2017), “On Vocational Education” (2018), “On General Education” (2019) . He is the chairman of the Toponymy Commission of the Milli Majlis (2015). He is the author of the drafts of the new Charter of ANAS (2014, 2019, 2022), the film “Temple of Science”, “Academy March”, the “Physics and Lyrics” project and the organizer of fine and applied art exhibitions. He was a member of the YAP Political Council (2013-2021).

Hi is a member of the Atatürk Culture, Language and History Higher Institution (1999), member of the Coordinating Council of World Azerbaijanis (2001), acctive member of the International Informatization Academy (2006) and International Chingiz Aitmatov Academy (2018), University of St. Petersburg (2015) and Southern Russia University (2017), he is an Honorary Doctor of Tashkent University of Uzbek Language and Literature (2021).
