Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

A scientific conference titled “Heydar Aliyev’s Development Strategy in Young Scientists’ Research,” dedicated to the 103rd anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, was held at the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS).

The event was attended by ANAS President, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, members of the Presidium, Chairman of the Yasamal District Organization of the New Azerbaijan Party Bakhtiyar Nabiyev, Member of Parliament and Doctor of Historical Sciences Vasif Gafarov, representatives of the ANAS Presidium Administration, the ANAS Youth Academy, territorial party organizations of the New Azerbaijan Party across ANAS institutes, and young scientists.

Opening the conference, Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that a series of events marking the anniversary of the birth of Heydar Aliyev—an outstanding statesman of 20th-century world politics and Azerbaijan’s National Leader—are being held worldwide, including in Azerbaijan and at ANAS. He emphasized that events have already been organized in a number of the Academy’s institutes and organizations, the process is ongoing, and today’s conference represents a flagship event of particular importance for the Academy.

Stating that Heydar Aliyev is widely recognized as a great global figure and powerful politician, Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that prominent world leaders, politicians, and scholars have given high praise to the National Leader. He highlighted that among these assessments, one of the most notable is the characterization of Heydar Aliyev as “a leader capable of changing the course of history,” which accurately reflects his legacy.

“His activity as First Deputy Chairman of the USSR Council of Ministers, his position in Kremlin politics, his determination, and his governance skills were openly recognized worldwide. It was no coincidence that at that time certain forces made serious attempts to remove him from the political stage. Heydar Aliyev had already become a major political figure with international prestige. By safeguarding and strengthening the young independent Azerbaijani state, which faced the threat of collapse, he changed not only the course of our country’s history but also that of the entire region. The preservation and development of Azerbaijan’s independence also became an example for other newly independent states. The ‘Contract of the Century’ was one of the key events that altered the course of history, and Heydar Aliyev turned this agreement into a strategic project serving Azerbaijan’s national interests. As a result, Azerbaijan’s international standing was strengthened, the number of its partners and friends increased, and attitudes toward the country in Europe and globally changed,” Academician Isa Habibbeyli emphasized.

The ANAS President also stated that today President Ilham Aliyev is making history as the Victorious Leader of a Victorious Nation. He stressed that although many countries have waged wars for years, the concepts of a victorious people and a victorious leader find clear expression in the example of Azerbaijan, which is a source of national pride.

Speaking about youth policy at the Academy, Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that the Youth Academy has been established on the basis of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of ANAS. He added that this initiative is among the first of its kind in the CIS and beyond, and that the model, shaped by the experience of academic institutions worldwide, has already yielded successful results.

“The governance structure, organizational framework, and areas of activity of the Youth Academy have now been defined. The ‘Young Researcher’ scientific journal published by young scholars is in operation, and one issue per year is released in English. At the last meeting of the Presidium, we approved the logo of the Youth Academy. Our goal is to strengthen the scientific potential of young researchers, engage them more actively in public and academic processes, and nurture the great scientists of the future. Today, the Youth Academy presents its scientific report in honor of the memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and introduces itself to society. This reflects our vision for youth, science, and the future of Azerbaijan,” Academician Isa Habibbeyli said.

The head of ANAS emphasized that leaders who dedicate their lives to their people and render exceptional service to their nation and state are never forgotten, and that the Azerbaijani people always honor the cherished memory of Heydar Aliyev—the architect and founder of independent Azerbaijan—with great respect.

As part of the event, a video prepared by the Department of Public Relations, Press, and Information of the ANAS Presidium Administration, reflecting the rich life and state-building activities of the National Leader, was screened.

Speaking at the conference, Chairman of the Yasamal District Organization of the New Azerbaijan Party Bakhtiyar Nabiyev noted that Heydar Aliyev consistently elevated Azerbaijan among respected nations both during the Soviet period and after returning to power. He added that during the establishment of the New Azerbaijan Party in the 1990s and the National Leader’s return to power, Azerbaijani intellectuals—especially Academy scholars—actively participated in the process and rallied around the great leader.

Highlighting the immense services of the National Leader to the Azerbaijani state and people, Bakhtiyar Nabiyev noted that graduates of the Jamshid Nakhchivanski Military Lyceum, established during the Soviet era at Heydar Aliyev’s initiative and insistence, actively participated in both the First Karabakh War and the Patriotic War, contributing to the protection and restoration of the country’s territorial integrity.

“We are fortunate that the Almighty granted us such a great figure as Heydar Aliyev. We are fortunate that Azerbaijan has a Victorious Leader like President Ilham Aliyev, who has made our country known among the nations of the world as a victorious nation,” Bakhtiyar Nabiyev said.

The conference then continued with presentations.

Member of Parliament and Doctor of Historical Sciences Vasif Gafarov delivered a report titled “Heydar Aliyev’s Mission of Salvation”; Chairman of the territorial party organization of the New Azerbaijan Party within the ANAS Presidium Administration and Deputy Head of the Department of Science and Education, PhD in Philosophy Vusal Zulfuqarov presented on “Heydar Aliyev’s Concept of Azerbaijanism and the Responsibility of Scholars”; Chairman of the ANAS Youth Academy, Associate Professor Elmir Babayev spoke on “Azerbaijan’s Development Trajectory: From Heydar Aliyev to Ilham Aliyev”; Deputy Chairman of the Youth Academy, PhD in Philology Shafa Aliyeva presented “Evaluation of Classical Literary Heritage and Ideological Context During the Heydar Aliyev Era”; Head of the Department for the Organization of Scientific and Public Events of the Youth Academy, PhD in Philology Orkhan Isayev delivered a report on “The Role of Heydar Aliyev’s Policy in the Development of Literary Studies”; Chairman of the International Cooperation Association of the Youth Academy, PhD in Philology Arzu Isgandarzade spoke on “State Language Policy in the Heydar Aliyev–Ilham Aliyev Era”; and Head of the Digital Mobility Center of the Youth Academy, PhD in Chemistry Gunel Azimova presented “Heydar Aliyev’s Ideas and Youth: Young People in a Digitalizing World.”
