An interview process has been organized by a commission established under the decision of the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) dated February 17, 2026, to assess candidates for the positions of deputy directors for digitalization at the Academy’s scientific institutions and organizations.
Opening the assessment interviews, ANAS President, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, stated that a new model for evaluating scientific activity is being implemented at the Academy and that significant steps are being taken toward digitalization. He noted that the rapid development of the digital society, the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, artificial intelligence, and new technologies require new approaches in the scientific environment. According to him, the structural changes carried out at the Academy stem precisely from these modern demands.
The head of ANAS emphasized that in recent years, large-scale reforms have been implemented in the Academy in the areas of electronic governance, digitalization, and artificial intelligence. Within this framework, for the first time in the CIS region, the “Electronic Academy” department was established in January 2023 within the Presidium Administration of ANAS. Later, in line with contemporary requirements, the department’s scope was expanded and renamed the “Digital Academy, Artificial Intelligence and Electronic Services” department. Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that an electronic document management system is currently in operation at ANAS, and major projects are being implemented in the development of an electronic library and electronic archive. In addition, “Digital Science and Artificial Intelligence” departments have been established on the basis of “Electronic Services” departments in the Academy’s scientific institutions and organizations, and their operational capacities have been expanded.
The ANAS President also highlighted that state programs adopted by President Ilham Aliyev in the fields of digital development and artificial intelligence, including the “Digital Development Concept of the Republic of Azerbaijan” and the “Artificial Intelligence Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2025–2028,” as well as the establishment of the Digital Development Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan chaired by First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva in accordance with a relevant decree, have defined important tasks for the Academy.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli stated that the Academy strives to responsibly fulfill its role in the country’s digitalization process and, as a result of ongoing innovations, the renewing Academy is entering a new stage in digitalization and artificial intelligence.
The commission then conducted interviews to evaluate candidates for the positions of deputy directors for digitalization at the Academy’s scientific institutions and organizations. Candidates nominated by the institutions and organizations were interviewed, and their responses to questions were assessed using a scoring system. Final results for the candidates who answered the designated questions were announced.
At the event, Academician Rasim Aliguliyev, Academician Ali Abbasov, Academician Shahin Mustafayev, and PhD in Mathematics, Associate Professor Fariz Imranov delivered remarks, emphasizing the importance of further expanding digital transformation processes in scientific institutions and stating that they found the candidates’ responses satisfactory.
In his closing remarks, Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that in the coming period, training sessions, awareness classes, and professional development programs will be organized in institutions and organizations in the areas of digitalization, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. He also provided relevant recommendations and instructions in this regard.
At the end of the event, it was recommended that the candidates nominated by the institutes and organizations be approved for the positions of deputy directors for digitalization in accordance with established procedures, and participants were wished success.
