Winners of the 2018 Goldman Environmental Prize announced

This year’s winners are American LeeAnne Walters from the United States, the founder of the citizens movement who helped expose the water crisis in Flint, Michigan, Claire Nouvian from France, who led the campaign against the devastating practice of deep-sea trawling, Khanh Nguy Thi from Vietnam, which worked with government agencies to reduce the country's dependence on coal in electricity generation, from South Africa, director of the Voluntary Environmental Group "Earthlife Africa" Makoma Lekalakala and the ecologist Liz McDaid from South Africa, the laureate of this award was the leader of the Afro-Colombian community in La Tome (Colombia), Francia Márquez from Colombia, who played an important role in stopping the illegal gold mining in the region. Environmental activist Manny Calonzo from the Philippines, won the Goldman prize this year for his campaign against lead paint in the Philippines.

Goldman Environmental Prize is considered the world's top environmental prize and is awarded annually (since 1990) to six conservationists - from Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, Central and South, as well as from island countries.
