Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

S.Babayev was born in 1923 in Tazakend village, Babak district of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

S.Babayev graduated with honors from Nakhchivan Pedagogical Technical School in 1940, then Nakhchivan State Teacher Training Institute, Azerbaijan State Pedagogical Institute, and Republican Party School of Azerbaijan KP. Honored Scientist of the Republic of Azerbaijan S.Babayev has been the Head of Geography Department of Nakhchivan State University named after Y.Mammadaliyev, Doctor of Geography, Professor, Honored Teacher of Nakhchivan AR, Chairman of Nakhchivan Branch of Azerbaijan Geographical Society, chairman of Nakhchivan City Council of Elders.

S.Babayev was elected as a corresponding member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences in 2003.

S.Babayev worked as a teacher, head of department at the 7-year secondary school in Babakh district in 1940-1947, director, then secretary of the Nakhchivan province committee of Azerbaijan Youth Union, first secretary of Nakhchivan Region Party Committee in 1948, Nakhchivan ASSR Ministers Council Chairman of Radio Broadcasting and Television Committee, First Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Director of Nakhchivan branch of Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute. Babayev was elected deputy of the Supreme Council of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for three calls. From 1972 he worked at the Pedagogical Institute named after Y.Mammadaliyev and then as a lecturer, dean and head of the department at this higher educational institution, which turned into Nakhchivan State University.

S.Babayev was the head of the Nakhchivan Geographical Society, and he provided exceptional services in raising several generations of geographers in the autonomous republic.

S.Babayev's scientific works are mainly based on physical and geographical features of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, natural resources, perspectives of their use, toponymy, geography history, etc. dedicated to learning. The scientist has implemented many scientific and practical suggestions. The book "Toponyms of Kitabi Dada Gorgud" in "Nakhchivan" proved that the Nakhchivan land is an ancient Azerbaijani land. Honored scientist was honored with this work. His 85 scientific works have been published and 8 abroad.

S.Babayev was awarded with Honorary decrees of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Nakhchivan AR, Cabinet of Ministers and medals.

Correspondent member of ANAS Safarali Babayev died in 2003 in Nakhchivan.
