Sadigov Ismayil Alakbar oglu
Sadigov Ismayil Alakbar oglu was born on January 15, 1928 in Soyugbulag village of Gadabay region.

In 1945 he entered the Veterinary Faculty of the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute, then continued education at the Moscow Zoo and Moscow Veterinary Academy. In 1956 he defended PhD thesis and in 1974 under the guidance of academician S.M.Asadov the doctoral thesis. He was awarded the title of Professor of Helmintology in 1989. In 2001 he was elected Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

I.Sadigov was a junior and senior research fellow (1950-1974) at the Department of Parasitology of the Institute of Zoology of the ANAS, and later (1974-2008) headed the Helmintology Laboratory.

I.Sadigov has studied the helminth fauna of wild animals. Detection of natural trichinella, exinococcus and tuberculosis foci from helminthes found by him as dangerous for human beings is invaluable information for epidemiologists and veterinarians. The scientist has identified ways of eliminating such hearths, and in the analysis of the discovered helminthes has put forward the principle of phylogenetic links between the parasite and the organism.

Under the guidance of IA Sadigov 9 doctors of philosophy and 1 doctor of sciences were defended. I.Sadigov has made numerous reports at international conferences.

In 1991, Sadigov was awarded with the State Prize of the National Academy of Sciences, four medals, the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Azerbaijan, for his work with a group of parasitologists of the Republic. He was awarded the medal dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

Corresponding member of ANAS Ismayil Sadigov died on December 29, 2008 in Baku.
