Sayavush Farhad Garayev was born in 1942 in Samukh region. In 1964 he graduated from the chemistry department of Azerbaijan State University.S.Garayev received the degree of PhD in Chemistry (1970) and Doctor of Science (1981), Professor (1984). In 2001 he was elected as a corresponding member of ANAS and in 2007 - a active member of ANAS.S.Garayev began his career as an engineer at the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Olefins; he studied part-time postgraduate student at the Azerbaijan Institute of Oil and Chemistry (1967-1970). He worked at this Institute as a senior researcher and associate professor (1970-1981). In 1982 - head of the Department of Organic and Biological Chemistry, supervisor of the problem laboratory Heteroatomic derivatives of unsaturated hydrocarbons. In 1988-1997 he served as dean of the Faculty of Chemical Technology. In 1997 he became the rector of the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy. S.Garayev developed methods for producing fine organic synthesis and heterofunctional compounds, studying the structure and developed a promising direction that reflects a non-traditional approach in identifying properties that are valuable from a practical point of view. Scientists have identified new patterns of intramolecular groups and catalytic transformations of functionally substituted alkenes, discovered new unique reactions of intramolecular cyclization. Of particular interest are experimentally validated principles for solving the problem of the synthesis of stressed ring systems with endocyclic unsaturated bonds.S.Garayev was the author of more than 600 scientific papers, as well as 70 copyright certificates, 4 monographs, 17 textbooks and teaching aids. He spoke at international and regional scientific conferences and symposia. Under his leadership were trained 1 Doctor and 25 PhD Sciences.S.Garayev was the editor-in-chief of the scientific journal “News of higher technical educational institutions of Azerbaijan”. The scientist was a n active member of the New York Academy of Sciences, the International Eco-Energy Academy, the International Academy of Engineering, the International Academy of Sciences, the Azerbaijan Academy of Engineering, the International Academy of Sciences of the Turkic World Studies, the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and an honorary professor at China Petroleum University.S.Garayev was awarded the honorary title “Honored Scientist”, "Shohrat"Order, diploma and medals of international organizations.Academician Siyavush Garayev died in 2015 in Baku.
