Gasimov Mirabbas was born on July 11, 1939 in the Narimankand, Shamakhi region (now the city of Gobustan). In 1961 he graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University after M.V.Lomonosov. In 1964 he defended his PhD and in 1967 he received the degree of Doctor of Science, in 1968 he received the title of Professor, in 1980 he was elected as a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and in 1989 an active member. In 1964–1965 he worked as an assistant at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, in 1965–1968 as a head teacher at the Derjinski Military Engineering Academy, in 1968–1972 as a Professor at Azerbaijan State University, from 1972–2008 as a head of the department, in 1990-1992 as dean and as a rector. The main results of Mirabbas Gasimov relate to inverse problems of spectral analysis for various classes of differential operators and to the theory of non-self-adjoint operators. He constructed the second spectral analysis of large-scale classical ordinary differential operators with a periodic potential. M.Gasimov is author about 100 scientific papers. Under the guidance of a scientist 70 PhD and more than 15 Doctors of Science were trained. He had great achievements in the development and organization of the Department of Mathematics at the Baku State University, at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Cybernetics, and at the Research Institute of Applied Mathematics. M.Gasimov also led large scientific and organizational work on the creation and development of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics of Baku State University. In 1990-1995 was a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Participated in three International Congresses of Mathematicians (Moscow - 1966, Nice - 1970, Vancouver - 1974), as well as a member of the Moscow Mathematical Society. He was awarded a “Gold medal” for his significant contribution to the development of science. Academician Mirabbas Gasimov died in 2008 in Baku. |
