Musayev Musa Abdurrahman oglu

Musaev Musa was born on December 27, 1921 in Ganja. He was educated at the veterinary faculty of the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute (1940-1945).

M.Musaev was a graduate student at the Moscow Veterinary Academy (1946-1948). Under the guidance of academician S.N.Vishelessky, he studied animal leptospirosis. While studying in graduate school M.Musaev was awarded the All-Union State Scholarship. In 1948 he received degree of PhD in Veterinary sciences.

The scientist was elected as a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan SSR in the specialty “Biology” (1959), received the title of Professor in the specialty “Protistology and Microbiology” (1960) was elected academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR (1967).

M.Musayev by the invitation of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan SSR, arrived in Baku (1949) and began working as a senior researcher at the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan SSR. The scientist also served as head of the laboratory of protistology at the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (1957-1985), head of the department of protozoology (1985-2010), director of the Institute of Zoology (1960-2010), academician-secretary of the Biological Sciences Division of ANAS (1997-2007).

Academician M.Musaev was a prominent zoologist, parasitologist and protozoologist, a broad biologist and well-known scientist in veterinary medicine. His whole life was devoted to the creation and development of science, education, and the training of national personnel in Azerbaijan. Researches of the scientist covered actual problems and were connected with the development of agriculture and environmental protection in the republic.

M.Musaev is author of about 600 scientific papers. The scientist received 7 copyright certificates. Under his leadership, 27 PhDs and 6 Doctors of Science were trained.

He was chairman of the Azerbaijan branch of the All-Union Society of Protozoologists (1968-1991), Vice-President of the All-Union Society of Protozoologists for the USSR Academy of Sciences (1976-1991), Deputy Chairman of the Society of Czech-Azerbaijani Friendship (1963-1991), President of the Society of Zoologists of Azerbaijan (1998-2010).

He received the honorary title "Honored Scientist of the Azerbaijan SSR" (1974), was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor (1980) and "Shohrat" of the Azerbaijan Republic (2001).

The scientist received the State Prize of the Republic of Azerbaijan (together with a group of scientists) in 1991 for his work on the development and promotion of the scientific basis for the prevention of parasitic diseases among animals, birds and fish in agriculture.

Academician Musa Musayev died on December 4, 2010 in Baku.
