Basic activity directions   Synthesis and research of new internal complex compounds with nitrogen, oxygen-, sulfur ligands of transition metals to obtain molecular magnetic and molecular conductive new materials.
Main scientific achievements  Complexes with ligands comprising stable radical groups were first obtained, their crystalline and molecular structure were studied. The distance between paramagnetic centers was determined; energy of exchange interactions among spin centers was estimated. It was shown, that in most metal chelate complexes the distance metal-radical makes no more than 0.5 nm. In obtained complexes radical center (nitroxyl) enters to coordination sphere of metal ion (copper) which results its activity in redox reactions. The reaction of oxidative C-C coupling in ligands coordinated with metal ion has been found. Recently redox reactions of coordinated ligands have been studied: reduction of coordinated azomethine groups and oxidation of coordinated aminobenzyl groups. It was shown that borohydride reduction rate of azomethine bond decreases due to rise of metal atomic number in the first transition row, which is related to the increase of stability of complex compound coinciding with Irving-Williams. In metal complexes with aromatic o-hydroxybenzylamines oxidation-dehydrogentaion reaction of benzylamine group is observed for four- and fivecoordinated compounds and is not observed for octahedral complexes. X-ray diffraction analyses of initial complexes and OD reaction products showed that OD reaction goes in complexation process. Hydrothermal redox methods were developed to produce nano powders from nitrates of metals and di- and polyatomic alcohols. Unlike others the developed method provides to obtain composites comprising pure powder metals, oxides, hydroxides and carbonates.
