Employees of the Institute of Dendrology of ANAS had an expedition in the north-eastern part of the Lesser Caucasus.
During the expedition, the taxonomic composition, distribution areas of trees and shrubs in the Gizilca and Korchay State Nature Reserve were investigated and seed and herbarium samples were collected. In addition, the cultural dendroflora of Ganja-Gazakh region has been explored.
During the expedition, the country's flora biodiversity, including species of trees and shrubs, bioecological features, and the range of propagation have been studied. As it turned out, in recent years due to inefficient and intensive use of forests, some plants have shortened, some species have completely changed their range.
The rare and endangered trees and shrubs have been analyzed in Azerbaijan and it is recommended that new species be included in the "Red Book" as well as periodically to inform the population about biodiversity conservation.
