Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

Three historical places of Azerbaijan are included in the ISESCO List of Islamic Heritage.

According to the final document of the extraordinary meeting of the Islamic World Heritage Committee in Rabat, Morocco, Icheri Sheher (with the Maiden Tower and Shirvanshah Palace), Sheki's historic center (with Khan's palace) and Gobustan rock paintings have been included in this list. In total, 117 historical and cultural sites have been included in the Islamic World Heritage List and three monuments in Yemen are on the list of potential endangered sites in Islamic countries.

Note that ISESCO's new strategy on heritage and culture also aims to reinforce activities of registering and protecting cultural and historical heritage in the Islamic world.
