Academician Isa Habibbeyli met with the Vice President at Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology

On May 8, the President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Academician Isa Habibbeyli met with Professor Tran Tuan Anh, Vice President at Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. 

Expressing his pleasure at seeing the guest at the Academy, Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that Azerbaijan and Vietnam are close friends and partner countries. He mentioned that bilateral relations began in the middle of the last century, with the visit of the President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh, to Azerbaijan in 1959. He also pointed out that National Leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev, who attached great importance to relations with Vietnam, and was First Deputy Chairman of the USSR Council of Ministers at the time, visited Vietnam in 1983, further strengthening the foundations of our bilateral relations.

The head of ANAS underlined that during the visit of President Ilham Aliyev to Vietnam in 2014, he met with students who had previously studied in Azerbaijan, and the meeting was held in a sincere atmosphere. He emphasized that these relations reflected the level of ties between our peoples and the depth of mutual respect.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that the visit of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam, to our country, his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev, and the signed documents would elevate our bilateral cooperation to a new stage. He also emphasized that this visit opened up broad opportunities for scientific collaboration.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences is ready to cooperate with the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. He informed the guest about the reforms carried out in the fields of science and education in our country, the glorious historical path of the Academy of Sciences in 80 years, its current areas of activity, and the research conducted in the sphere of artificial intelligence and digital technologies. The President of ANAS noted that scientific research related to Vietnam is carried out currently at three institutions of the Academy, the Institutes of Literature, Oriental Studies, and History and that a book on literary relations has already been published at the Institute of Literature. Academician Isa Habibbeyli also highlighted that last year an international conference was held in Baku on the theme “Literature of Asian Peoples: Traditions and Modern Tendencies,” which was attended by Professor Nguyen Van Chien from Hanoi University of Vietnam. 

The head of ANAS mentioned that President Ilham Aliyev is successfully continuing the work started by National Leader Heydar Aliyev regarding Azerbaijan-Vietnam relations and expressed that the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences is ready for joint cooperation to contribute to the development of these relations through science.

During the meeting, Vice President at Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Prof. Tran Tuan Anh expressed his gratitude for the warm welcoming and hospitality, and conveyed his congratulations on the 80th anniversary of ANAS. Dr. Tran Tuan Anh highly appreciated the long-standing friendship between Azerbaijan and Vietnam, emphasized their interest in further developing scientific cooperation, and invited Academician Isa Habibbeyli to Vietnam to sign an inter-academic memorandum of cooperation.

Dr. Tran Tuan Anh said that during the Soviet era, Vietnamese students received education in Azerbaijan in the fields of oil and gas, natural and social sciences. He emphasized that Vietnam attaches special importance to its relations with Azerbaijan, and the visit of To Lam, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, is a clear evidence of this.

The guest spoke about the reforms implemented in the fields of science and education in Vietnam and highlighted the potential for cooperation with ANAS in areas such as artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and seismology. He also mentioned that the academy he represents operates two universities and that its scientific journals are indexed in the Scopus database.

During the meeting, discussions were held on joint cooperation, and mutual commemorative gifts were exchanged.

The Vietnamese guests also toured the building of the Presidium of ANAS.

The meeting was also attended by Nguyen Hoang Duong, Deputy Head of International Cooperation Department of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Esmira Alirzayeva, PhD in Biology and Head of the Department for Foreign Relations and Work with International Organizations of the Presidium administration of ANAS and Associate Professor Agahuseyn Shukurov, PhD in Philology and Head of the Public Relations, Press, and Information Department.
