The parched lake, which was once located long ago in the Gale Crater, was not only salty, but had an acid-base pH balance quite comfortable for living things.
A new study, published in the journal Nature Communications, does not make loud statements about life on the Red Planet, but contains very important evidence for those who think that Mars was once a living planet.
The work is based on research in the Gale Crater - a large depression on the surface of Mars, created long ago as a result of a meteorite impact. Today it is a dry and deserted place, but once upon a time there was water in the crater - a giant Martian lake.
