Institute of Dendrology grows plants with sedative and anxiolytic effects in the fight against coronavirus

Today, the world is fighting the COVID-19 virus, and compulsory quarantine is applied. Social isolation, a long time living in a closed environment leads to increased emotional stress in adolescents and the elderly. This, in turn, leads to a sharp weakening of the immune system. Stress control and prevention can prevent more serious diseases arising from chronic stress and restore harmony in life.

There are several types of medicinal plants with a sedative (calming) effect, which positively affect the elimination of insomnia in cases of nervousness, fatigue, anxiety at the Institute of Dendrology of ANAS.

One of them is lavender, which is considered the best sedative, and its flowers, herbs and seeds are very useful. Since this plant is rich in essential oils, it destroys various viruses in the air and prevents their mass spread. Lavender is the most effective natural method of protection against swine flu, bird flu and colds, so it is advisable to plant this plant in city parks.

Ginkgo biloba, one of the soothing herbs that is rich in vitamins and minerals. This plant regulates blood circulation in the brain and strengthens memory, eliminates the problem of age-related distracted attention, and prevents hearing and vision impairment.

In 2018, the introduction of the species Passiflora Incarnata L from tropical America began at the Institute of Dendrology. Research is currently ongoing successfully. Herbal preparations are widely used for insomnia, neurosthenia, anxiety disorders, autism, epilepsy.

Passiflorin and Harman alkaloids of the plant inhibit the enzyme monoamine oxidase, causing an increase in monoamines in the synaptic cavities. As a result of the action of norepinephrine, serotonin, dopamine, P. Incarnata has an antidepressant effect.
