A new continent is forming in the Indian Ocean. So say the French and Australian geologists who studied the composition of the rocks on the islands of the Kerguelen archipelago, located near Antarctica. Granite magma was discovered in the upper layer of the crust, and this indicates the emergence of content that will take millions of years to form.
Thus, scientists emphasize, the continental crust can form not only in subduction zones (at the borders of continents and oceans), but also directly in the center of the oceans.
