Lankaran Regional Scientific Center continues research on new tropical-subtropical fruits

In recent years, Lankaran Regional Scientific Center (REM) of ANAS, along with tea and citrus plants, has achieved successful results in the adaptation, cultivation and study of the economic importance of the plant guayava (Psidium guayava).

This was reported by the director of the Lankaran RSC of ANAS, professor Farman Guliyev. Under the leadership of the scientist, extensive research was conducted on the zoning of the tropical-subtropical guayava (Psidium guayava) fruit plant introduced from the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Professor F. Guliyev said that they have been conducting research in the field of zoning of guayava, a plant species belonging to the genus Psidium of the genus Corydalis, for about 20 years. He noted that a number of successful results have been achieved in the cultivation of guayava, native to South America, in our region in the open air, with synthetic coverings and indoors.

Emphasizing that guayava, which contains a record amount of antioxidants, is one of the most valuable fruits and has great economic importance, the scientist said that the fruit of this plant is widely used in the confectionery and medical industries, medicine.

According to him, due to the record amount of vitamin C in guayava, it is recommended to use this fruit often in various respiratory diseases and influenza.

Farman Guliyev noted that the researches carried out under his leadership on the basis of experience in the Lankaran tea branch of the Azerbaijan Fruit and Horticulture Institute of ANAS Lankaran RSC in the direction of zoning and reproduction of guava is being yielded.
