Chinese researchers have developed a mobile mass spectrometer to monitor sources of air pollution. This was announced by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (ANC).
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are a major component of ozone and PM2.5 particulate matter, so tracking VOC emissions sources is important to control air pollution. However, in challenging urban environments, tracking VOC sources is difficult, both spatially and temporally, with conventional laboratory test equipment or handheld sensors.
