Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

Chemists from France and Singapore have proposed both an environmentally friendly and efficient method for extracting precious metals from lithium-ion batteries using citric acid and orange peel extract.

The new method allows the removal of more than 90% of cobalt from the cathode material without the formation of harmful products.

The results of the research were published in the journal Environmental Science & Technology.
