With the restoration of underground water suppliers, 8 million cubic meters of clean water can be obtained annually

Having created a group for the study of underground water suppliers (kahriz) in Azerbaijan, we studied them common in Gazakh, Agstafa, Tovuz, Shamkir, Ganja, Samukh, Goranboy, Yevlakh, Barda, Terter, Agjabedi regions. As a result of research, we have proved that it is possible to obtain 8 million cubic meters of clean water per year by repairing underground water suppliers in a short time with little cost.

Director of the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry, corresponding member of ANAS Alovsat Guliyev, who was the first in Azerbaijan to determine these systems, their structural elements, the principle of work, planning, morphometric measurements, stated this.

The scientist recalled that with the help of the leadership of Azersu OJSC in 2016-2017, a study was carried out of the existing underground water suppliers systems in Azerbaijan and determination of their water potential in the future. It is gratifying that today in the village of Hasansu, Aghstafa region, OJSC "Azersu" began the restoration of the ancient kahriz "Hasansu". I think that other regions should also pay more attention to our ancient monuments - kahriz, which are a reliable source of water.

Speaking about the problem of technical certification of kahrizs in Azerbaijan, A. Guliyev noted that special attention is paid to this issue in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. In 2004, by the order of the Chairman of the Supreme Mejlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Vasif Talibov, the Kahriz administration was established under the Committee for Land Reclamation and Water Resources of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. All kahrizs were certified, and the coordinates of the exit points were documented in the modern GPS system. As a positive result of this charitable work, more than 200 kahrizs were restored, and activities in this direction continue.
