Specialists at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center have developed a new method of diagnosing Alzheimer's disease by examining the retina.
Experts have found beta-amyloid elements in the retina of patients who died of Alzheimer's disease. At the same time, a special contact was found between the amount of these elements and the symptoms. The researchers decided to research whether these elements can be detected while the patient is alive.
According to Gazeta.ru, experts analyzed the retina of people over 40 years. Analyzing the images, the scientists found a buildup of amyloid proteins in the retina, which increases the likelihood of developing Alzheimer's disease.
