New kinds of carnivorous sponge unknown to science have been discovered in the depths of the ocean

Australian scientists have discovered a previously unknown species of sponge in the depths of the ocean.

New organisms such as "Nullarbora heptaxia", "Abyssocladia oxyasters" and "Lycopodina hystrix" live in certain parts of the Gulf of Australia.

Three new species form three new generations. They live at depths of 163 to 3,000 meters.

These are the first predatory sponges found in South Australia.
