The Institute of Information Technologies of ANAS hosted an online scientific seminar on "Online cooperation tools used in civil science projects in the conditions of COVID-19" of the 3rd department.

Nargiz Verdiyeva, an employee of the department, presented the report and noted that civil science is developing as a new direction of e-science in the current period accompanied by technological innovations. She said that with the development of information and communication technologies, citizen science is applied in various fields.

Noting that civil science projects have been successfully implemented in the prevention of various diseases, the speaker stressed that the COVID-19 pandemic, which is currently fighting around the world, has affected civil science.

N.Verdiyeva also highlighted some online citizen science project initiatives related to COVID-19. She noted that, “Covid Near You”, “Foldit”, “Kaggle”, “Zooniverse” and others belong there.

In conclusion, the speaker noted that the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused a stagnation in traditional scientific activity, has not only hampered the development of civic science, but also increased the relevance of online participation in scientific activity.
