President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Academician Isa Habibbeyli took part in the 2nd Meeting of the Presidents of the Academies of Sciences of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) member countries, organized by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) in Istanbul.
The meeting, took place at Istanbul University, was attended by the presidents, vice presidents, academicians, and representatives of the Academies of Sciences from member countries-Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine.
The event, held under the theme “Cooperation and Development of Science and Education in the Black Sea Region” aimed to strengthen ties among the scientific institutions and universities of the BSEC member countries and to jointly find solutions to problems affecting not only the region but the entire world.
Rector of Istanbul University, Professor Osman Bülent Zülfikar, and Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of BSEC, Academician Asaf Hajiyev, delivered opening speeches. They spoke about the significance of this international event and emphasized the importance of strengthening scientific relations among academic institutions of the countries that are members of this international organization.
President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli delivered a presentation on the topic “Problems of the Eurasian Geography and the Duties of the Academies of Sciences.” He said that holding joint discussions would pave the way for new research in several scientific directions and expressed his confidence that this meeting would contribute to the further expansion of cooperative relations among the academies. He noted that the scientific cooperation established between ANAS and the Academies of Sciences of Türkiye, Georgia, Bulgaria, Romania, and other countries has been successfully continuing through joint research in various scientific fields. He highlighted that ANAS attaches great importance to joint scientific projects and emphasized that such meetings are valuable in terms of expanding cooperation and raising relations to a new level. Academician Isa Habibbeyli also spoke about the tasks ahead in this field and presented his proposals. He invited the member countries of the international organization to work together based on common values and mutual respect in the fields of humanities and social sciences, as well as in areas such as seismology, artificial intelligence, and digital issues.
President of the Academy of Sciences of Georgia, Academician Roin Metreveli, former President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Academician Julian Revalski, member of the Academy of Athens in Greece, Professor Antonia Trichopoulou, former President of the Moldovan Academy of Sciences, Academician Gheorghe Duca, Vice President of the Romanian Academy of Sciences, Academician Nicolae-Victor Zamfir, President of the Turkish Academy of Sciences, Academician Muzaffer Şeker, Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Professor Pyrozhkov Sergii, President of the International Turkic Academy, Academician Shahin Mustafayev, Secretary General of the Black Sea Universities Network, Professor Eden Mamut, Advisor to the Rector of Istanbul University, Professor Fahri Ovalı, and others delivered speeches. They spoke about the importance of the event, the creation of opportunities for joint cooperation, and shared their thoughts and proposals on the topic.
During the part of the event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Academician Asaf Hajiyev gave a presentation dedicated to the honorable historical path of ANAS. The participants were briefly informed about the Academy’s 80 years of activity, and on this significant occasion, Asaf Hajiyev extended his congratulations to the leadership and staff of ANAS.
Rector of Istanbul University, Academician Osman Bülent Zülfikar, former President of the Moldovan Academy of Sciences, Academician Gheorghe Duca, as well as the presidents and delegations of the Academies of Sciences of other BSEC member countries also extended their congratulations on the 80th anniversary of ANAS.
Afterward, the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, delivered a speech in which he spoke about the scientific research directions of the institution he leads.
Highlighting the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, on the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Academician Isa Habibbeyli mentioned the great historical significance of the events held in Ankara and Istanbul, Türkiye. He expressed his gratitude to the heads of the Academies of Sciences and international scientific institutions who congratulated ANAS.
At the conclusion of the event, a joint declaration was signed by the heads of the Academies of Sciences of BSEC member countries. The document once again confirmed the importance of strengthening cooperation in science and education in the Black Sea region, highlighting the significance of promoting joint research, supporting the integration of new technologies, and increasing opportunities for young scientists.
