An event titled “Greetings to Shusha” was held at the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences with the participation of poets from around the world.
Writers from Türkiye, Hungary, Moldova, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan took part in the event. Presentation ceremony of several books were also held during the event.
Opening the event, the President of ANAS and Director of the Institute of Literature, Academician Isa Habibbeyli expressed his pleasure in welcoming guests to the 91-year-old institute. Providing information about the Institute of Literature, Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that there are departments studying world literature and the literatures of Turkic peoples in the academy, along with Azerbaijani literature. Centers of Alisher Navoi, Makhtum-Qoli Faraghi, and Mehmet Akif Ersoy are functioning within the institute. Informing guests about the scientific publications of the institute, Academician Isa Habibbeyli spoke about the journals that study literary studies. He mentioned that one issue of the journal “Comparative Literature Studies” was dedicated to Uzbek literature, and another to Abay Kunanbayev. He reminded that the works of Chingiz Aitmatov are being researched at the institute, and works of Yunus Emre has been published in the Azerbaijani language. Malahat Gadirova has prepared a three-volume anthology on Belarusian literature.
He mentioned that a dissertation on Hungarian literature has been written, and the history of Hungarian literature has been translated into Azerbaijani and will be published soon. He pointed out that ANAS is interested in establishment of relations with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and that the President of the Hungarian Academy has been invited to the 80th anniversary of ANAS.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that Turkish literature is thoroughly studied in all scientific centers of Azerbaijan, especially at the Academy. ANAS has established scientific relations with the peoples of the world. He highlighted the special role of Salim Babullaoghlu in the field of translation and promotion of world literary works.
Then, the Secretary for International Relations and Translation Affairs of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, poet and essayist Salim Babullaoghlu, delivered a speech. He provided information about the “Greetings to Shusha” project implemented during the “Year of Shusha”. Salim Babullaoghlu said that “The Masks of Brezhnev” by Nicolae Spetaru and book of Attila Balázs were translated and presented to the Azerbaijani readers.
Hungarian poet Attila Balázs, Moldovan writer Nicolae Spetaru, Turkish authors Adnan Özer and Barış Bahar, Belarusian poetess Maria Kobets, Kazakh scientist and poet Kadirbek Kunypiyauly, and Uzbek poet Adhambek Alimbekov recited their poems in their native languages. Their poems were presented in Azerbaijani by Salim Babullaoghlu.
Doctor of Philology Abuzar Baghirov recited his poem on the theme of patriotism, and Chairman of the Youth Council of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, Farid Huseyn, spoke about the projects carried out by the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation.
At the end of the event, guests were presented with publications of the Institute of Literature, and commemorative photos were taken.
