A meeting dedicated to preparations for the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress was held at the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS).
During the meeting, extensive discussions were held on the organization and implementation of academic events related to the jubilee, as well as on the preparation and dissemination of publications.
The meeting, chaired by ANAS President Academician Isa Habibbeyli, was devoted to the discussion of tasks arising from the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev dated October 22, 2025, “On the Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the First Turkological Congress”.
Speaking at the meeting, Academician Isa Habibbeyli described the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress as a significant historical event for Azerbaijani society and for further expanding relations with the Turkic world. Recalling that the First Turkological Congress was held from February 26 to March 6, 1926, precisely in the Grand Assembly Hall of the Presidium of ANAS, he emphasized the Congress’s important role in the formation and development of Turkological thought. Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that the Congress continues to retain its relevance today as an intellectual and methodological source for Turkological research.
The head of ANAS stated that consistent and targeted measures are being implemented at the Academy in line with the priorities set by the head of state. In this context, Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that a special Action Plan has been prepared at the Academy, noting that a number of scientific institutions within ANAS host structural units conducting research on the history, literature, folklore, language, music, archaeology, and philosophy of the Turkic world. He also highlighted the expansion of cooperation with academic research and higher education institutions in Turkic-speaking countries. He stressed that the work carried out in this direction makes an important contribution to the scientific and cultural integration of Turkic peoples.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that, within the framework of the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress, ANAS plans to publish a number of books and monographs, photo chronicles, and promotional publications; organize academic conferences at research institutions covering the humanities and social sciences; and hold book and virtual exhibitions at the Central Scientific Library. The ANAS President also drew attention to plans to publish a special issue of the journal “Turkologiya” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Congress.
Subsequently, organizational issues related to preparations for the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress were discussed.
Director of the ANAS Nasimi Institute of Linguistics, Doctor of Philological Sciences Nadir Mammadli; Baku Coordinator of the Yunus Emre Institute Gökhan Seyhan; Head of the Science and Education Department of the Presidium of ANAS, Doctor of Philological Sciences Serkhan Khaveri; Head of the Department of History and Archaeology at Khazar University Telman Nusratoglu; Director of the Central Scientific Library, Doctor of Technical Sciences Huseyn Huseynov; Head of the Public Relations, Press, and Information Department of the Presidium of ANAS, PhD in Philology Agahuseyn Shukyurov; Scientific Secretary of the Division of Social Sciences, PhD in Philology Zumrud Mansimova; lecturer at the Yunus Emre Institute Huseyn Musayev; and others delivered speeches and voiced their proposals.
At the meeting, assignments were given regarding the organization of the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress.
