On April 17, a scientific session titled “Problems of Using Modern Technologies in the Development of Economic Science,” dedicated to the 85th anniversary of Corresponding Member of ANAS Gorkhmaz Imanov, Head of the Laboratory for Fuzzy Modernization of Socio-Economic Processes at the Institute of Mathematics of the Ministry of Science and Education, was held at the Central Scientific Library of ANAS.
The event was jointly organized by the Division of Social Sciences and the Division of Physical-Mathematical and Technical Sciences of ANAS.
Participants first ознакомились with an exhibition featuring the works of Corresponding Member of ANAS Gorkhmaz Imanov.
Opening the jubilee event, President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, подчеркнул that economist Gorkhmaz Imanov has had an honorable and productive life. He noted that even during the Soviet period, Imanov was recognized by the scientific community as an economist with a new way of thinking.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli stated that Gorkhmaz Imanov’s research in important and complex scientific fields such as economic forecasting models has been the main focus of his 50-year scientific career.
Noting that the number of scientists currently engaged in fundamental research in the field of economic-mathematical forecasting models in the country is limited, the ANAS president emphasized that artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and scientometric calculations—now leading drivers of societal development—are fundamentally based on economic-mathematical forecasting models. He added that the formation of these models and their transformation into decision-making mechanisms underpinning the digital society is the result of a long and complex path of scientific development.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli also noted that Gorkhmaz Imanov is among the scholars who introduced the concepts of economic uncertainty and fuzzy models into Azerbaijan’s scientific environment. According to him, this contributed to the emergence of new scientific directions based on the application of the ideas of prominent Azerbaijani scientist Lotfi Zadeh, who introduced fuzzy logic theory to world science, in the field of economics.
Describing Gorkhmaz Imanov as one of the distinguished intellectuals who founded a scientific school in the field of mathematical forecasting of Azerbaijan’s economy, Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that a significant portion of the scientist’s research over the past 50 years has been published in prestigious scientific journals in Russia, Germany, the United States, and other countries. He also highlighted that Imanov is an honorary member of reputable international organizations, including the European Academy of Economics, a foreign member of the Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences of Spain, and an honorary member of the European Higher Education Doctors Council.
The ANAS president stated that the scientist’s work has been closely associated with the Institute of Economics and the Institute of Control Systems (Institute of Mathematics), noting that the laboratory he leads plays an important role in the development of this field and in training highly qualified scientific personnel.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli also spoke about the scientist’s organizational activities, noting his active participation in international and national scientific events, his valuable presentations, and the fact that under his supervision 31 PhD and 3 Doctor of Sciences degrees have been awarded.
“ANAS highly appreciates, in the person of Gorkhmaz Imanov, a scholar who is innovative, progressive, brings and applies the positive experience of global economic science to Azerbaijan, and serves the scientific and economic development of our independent state with substantial works,” Academician Isa Habibbeyli said.
He expressed gratitude to Corresponding Member of ANAS Gorkhmaz Imanov for his contributions to the development of Azerbaijani academic science and wished him further success in his scientific endeavors.
Then Chairman of the Union of Economists of Azerbaijan, Member of Parliament, Academician Ziyad Samadzade delivered a report titled “On the Scientific Activity of Prominent Representative of Economic Science, Corresponding Member of ANAS Gorkhmaz Imanov.” He spoke about the scientist’s life and work, as well as his exceptional contributions to the development of economic science and the training of economists. He noted that Gorkhmaz Imanov, who has made significant contributions to global science in the field of mathematical and instrumental methods in economics, devoted his life to the study of economic science and created a major scientific school in this field.
Academician Ziyad Samadzade noted that the jubilarian defended his кандидатская dissertation in 1968 at the Central Economic-Mathematical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences in Moscow on “Optimization of Cargo Transportation Processes Using Computers and Economic-Mathematical Methods,” and his doctoral dissertation in 1975 on “An Integrated System of Models for Optimal Planning of the National Economy.” He added that Imanov was awarded the academic title of professor in 1983 and was elected a corresponding member of ANAS in 2017.
Recalling that his acquaintance with Gorkhmaz Imanov dates back to the late 1960s, the speaker noted that he was among the first scholars in the republic working in the field of economic-mathematical methods. He also highlighted the jubilarian’s scientific achievements in areas such as fuzzy models for assessing socio-economic and social system quality, problems of economic uncertainty, evaluation models for national sustainable development strategies, and the assessment of macro indices of socio-economic systems based on fuzzy logic theory. He emphasized that the study of uncertainties in economic information and processes, as well as the application of fuzzy models proposed to address these issues at various levels of socio-economic systems, is of great importance for the country’s development programs.
Academician Ziyad Samadzade noted that Gorkhmaz Imanov was awarded the State Prize of the Azerbaijan SSR in science in 1984. He emphasized that the prominent scientist достойно represented the country by delivering presentations in more than 40 countries on the application of mathematical methods in economics.
He added that Gorkhmaz Imanov’s multifaceted activities, which integrate economics and technical sciences, serve as an example for the younger generation. Academician Ziyad Samadzade подчеркнул that the jubilarian’s rich experience and scientific legacy constitute an invaluable school for economists of the republic.
Then Corresponding Member of ANAS Gorkhmaz Imanov presented his scientific report titled “Artificial Intelligence Technologies for Managing Quality of Life.” He spoke about his recent research and findings on the application of artificial intelligence technologies in managing socio-economic systems.
At the event, Academician Ali Abbasov, Head of the BBA programs in Business Administration at the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, Corresponding Member of ANAS Rafiq Aliyev, Rector of the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC) Professor Adalat Muradov, Chairman of the Chamber of Auditors of the Republic of Azerbaijan Professor Vahid Novruzov, Executive Director of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication Professor Vusal Gasimli, and Director of the Economic Research Institute under UNEC Professor Yadulla Hasanli congratulated the scientist on his anniversary. They spoke about his multifaceted activity and high personal qualities, noting that Gorkhmaz Imanov is widely respected within the country’s scientific community as a distinguished economist, an authoritative and capable organizer, and a proponent of ideas with both theoretical and practical significance.
