British scientists have grown heart muscle tissue from spinach

A team of scientists from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the UK was able to obtain from spinach leaves organic matter, with properties similar to muscle tissue of the myocardium, according to CBS.

According to the researchers, the use of this plant in the experiment became possible due to the fact that its capillary net works the same way as the cardiovascular system.

To obtain the «plant» myocardial tissue, the scientists removed the spinach a number of substances, leaving the structure with capillaries made of neutral pulp. The processing of organic harvesting stem cells were obtained muscle tissue, is able to drive through small volumes of liquids.

«We filled the capillaries of the sheet with a dye-enriched blood cells, and they began to circulate,» said a leading bioengineer Glen Gaudet.

Experts hope that in the future, the opening will minimize the use of donor materials in the process of creating artificial organs. In addition, biochemists announced the study of the properties of broccoli, which, in their opinion, will help to grow lung tissue.
