In Stockholm, were announced names of the 2017 Nobel Prize winners in in Physiology or Medicine. They were Jeffrey Hall, Michael Rochebach and Michael Young. The prize was awarded for "the discovery of molecular mechanisms that control circadian rhythms". Circadian rhythms are called cyclic fluctuations in the intensity of various biological processes associated with the change of day and night.
The Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences awards the Nobel Prize for Physiology and Medicine annually. Each laureate receives a medal, a diploma and a monetary reward, which this year will be 9 million Swedish kronor (about 64 million rubles). The award ceremony takes place in Stockholm on December 10 - the day of Alfred Nobel's death.
