The Academy of Sciences was first established in the XVII century.
The oldest scientific academy in Italy - National Academy dei Lincei (Italian: Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei) was founded in 1603 Umbrian aristocrat Federico Cesi.Academicians call themselves by “lynx eyes” (lincei) in acknowledgement of special vigilance of sight which is necessary for scientific knowledge and which is especially inherent in a lynx — a wild forest cat.The epithet was born from reconsideration of a classical turn “Linkey eye” — a hint on visual acuity of Linkey, the watchman at Argonauts, and at the same time on vigilance of a lynx.In 1645 prominent English scientist John Wilkinson put a basis of other academy. The scientific institution recognized under the name “invisible board”, in 1660 it was officially recognized as Charles II and it is transformed to Royal Society for the Advancement of Learning (Royal society for knowledge development).Establishment of Royal society induced the French scientists to rally in 1666 in Paris in Academic des Sciences (Academy of the exact sciences). The Parisian Academy of Sciences was created on Accademia del Cimento sample (Academy of experiences), based in 1657. Academies of Sciences had strong impact on development of the European science. The first scientific institutes also were founded at the London royal society and the Parisian academy of Sciences.
Now around the world there are more than 200 academies of Sciences.
