Institute of Geology and Geophysics has acquired three important scientific results based on the work done in 2017

In 2017, the Institute of Geology and Geophysics has obtained three important scientific findings on the basis of the work carried out on the scientific-thematic plan. At the nationwide workshop on this issue Deputy Director of the Institute for Scientific Affairs, Corresponding Member of ANAS Dadash Huseynov presented the results to the collective.

He noted that, the distribution of the B constant of Gutenberg-Richter's law in 2000-2016 was analyzed and the seismotectonic tension in the south-north direction in Azerbaijan was marked and there were noticeable changes over time. This is important in assessing the seismic hazard of the region. The researchers were Academician-Secretary of the Department of Earth Sciences, Academician Fakhraddin Gadirov, Director of Republican Seismological Service Center, Corresponding Member of ANAS Gurban Yetirmishli, Professor L.Teleska, Doctor of Sciences in Earth Sciences Gulam Babayev, PhD in Radiology Rafik Safarov and S. Ismailova.

Theoretical investigations have shown that, in the modern theoretical models of the Earth, the assumption of the hypothesis about the existence of a solid object in the form of a balloon and the elasticity of the distribution of elastic parameters of this structure corresponds to the integral criteria of geology and geophysics, however, the rigidity, durability and elasticity of the solid body mechanics deformed does not meet the fundamental requirements for the spread of waves. The study was conducted by academician Hatam Guliyev.

As a third important scientific result, for the first time in terms of tectonic lithospheric plural theory, geomorphological plate-tectonic types of its separate blocks have been separated from the geodynamic evolution of the Caucasian segment of Tethys as a result of exploration and analysis of the geologic history of the Kura depression. They are characterized by mesocride and granite-metamorphic substrate belonging to the Hersinid and Chimerides according to their position in Tethys tectonics and the age and degree of consolidation of the earth's crust. It is proposed that large-scale plate-tectonic maps of the collision phase of the Kura megalogy should be drawn before the new stage of search and exploration. The researcher is a doctor of geological-mineralogical sciences M.Rustamov.
