Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

ANAS Institute of Geography (IG) held a scientific and practical conference on "Strengthening adaptation to climate change in the mountainous regions of the Caucasus. Optimization of interaction between science and practice".

The event was attended by representatives of the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the State Agency for Servicing Citizens and Social Innovations under President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the State Agency for Land Reclamation and Water Management, the State Statistics Committee, business sector and civil society, as well as educational institutions.

Opening the conference, the representative of Azerbaijan in the Mountain Science Network of the Caucasus Azer Garayev brought to the attention that the main goal of the event is to discuss the unity of science and practice, as well as the shortcomings that may arise in this direction.

Then, director of the Institute of Geography, academician Ramiz Mammadov, having informed about the directions of the institution he directed, emphasized the importance of participation of Azerbaijani scientists in international forums on the Caucasus theme and spoke about the successful connections of Russian geographers with specialists from Turkey, Russia, Georgia and Iran.

Then, were delivered papers by Azer Garayev on "Current Status, Identification of Vulnerabilities and Weaknesses, and Identification of the Basic Needs for Unity of Science and Practice" and IG Leading Researcher, PhD in Geography Rovshan Kerimov on "Cooperation in the Caucasus Mountain Forum". It was noted that, strengthening ties between specialists in various fields dealing with climate change and the study of natural phenomena is important. At the same time, the unity of science and practice in the issues of adaptation to climate change in the Caucasus is necessary.

Representatives of the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the State Agency for Servicing Citizens and Social Innovations under the President, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the State Agency for the Improvement of the Environment and Water Economy, the State Committee according to statistics and officials of other structures.
