Norwegian Academy of Sciences announced the Kavli Prize 2018, which is awarded for outstanding achievements in astrophysics, nanotechnology and neurology.
Laureate in the field of astronomy are Evine van Dyshuk from Holland for work on the study of chemical and physical processes in interstellar space.
The winner in the field of nanotechnology was an international team of scientists composed of Emmanuel Charpentier (France), Jennifer Dudna (USA) and Virginius Shikshnis (Lithuania). They got the award for developing the CRISPR / Cas9 DNA editing technique.
The Kavli Prize in the field of neurology will also be received by an international team that discovered molecular and neural mechanisms of hearing - James Hadspet (USA), Robert Fettipleys (Great Britain) and Christine Petit (France).
Kavli Prize was established in 2007 by the Norwegian philanthropist Fred Kavli. Since then, the prize is given once every two years. The awarding ceremony takes place, as a rule, in September in Oslo. The winners awarded the medal, a scroll and a cash prize of one million dollars.
