ANAS Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory of announces the “Open door day” as part of World Space Week from October 4 - 10.

From 4 to 10 October, it was announces World Space Week by the UN General Assembly dated 6 December 1999 (resolution 54/68). These dates recall in memory such events as the launch of the 1st artificial satellite of the Earth on October 4, 1957 and the Order dated October 10, 1967 on the Treaty on Principles of State Activities of the Exploration and Use of Outer Space.

Within the framework of the World Space Week a series of events are held every year more than 90 countries to explore the cosmic space. The first such “World Space Week” was held in 2000 on “Beginning of Space Millennium”.

Azerbaijan has joined this international project since 2015 and annually holds events in the country on astronomy and space science. These events include open doors at the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory, film presentations, meetings with famous astronomers, etc.

This year, the World Space Week is devoted to the “Space connects the world”.
