Nobel Prize awards ceremony held in Stockholm

Nobel Prize awards ceremony held in Stockholm on December 10.

Names of the awarded persons for 2018 was announced in October. In a total they are 12 people, working in the United States, Canada, France, Japan, the United Kingdom, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Iraq.

The Nobel Prize in physics for 2018 was awarded - American Arthur Ashkin, French Jerard Moro and Canadian Donna Strickland for innovative inventions in the field of laser physics.

James P. Allison of US scientist and Tasuku Honjo of Japan awarded the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for “therapy for the discovery of negative immunomodulation for cancer treatment”.

2018 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to Frances H. Arnold of California Institute of Technology for the directed evolution of enzymes and to George P. Smith of the University of Missouri and Gregory P. Winter of the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology for the phage display of peptides and antibodies.

Nobel Peace Prize for 2018 to to the gynecologist from the Democratic Republic of the Congo Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad for from Iraq for their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict. Both laureates have made a crucial contribution to focusing attention on, and combating, such war crimes.

The Swedish Academy has said it will postpone this year's Nobel Prize in Literature but plans to award it next year.

The awards ceremony is traditionally held on Alfred Nobel’s Memorial Day, who died on December 10, 1896. Since 1901, the award has been awarded a total of 579 times, 881 people and 23 organizations have received it.
